Come Celebrate Architecture!
Traditionally, this event is the annual Conference for architects across Canada. This year we are proud to include Interior Designers (IDs). The conference focuses on architects’ and IDs’ contributions to the improvement of today’s world, the built environment, sustainable urban development and social commitment, as well as the importance of design professionals. There will be continuing education courses, social activities, recognition of excellence and the RAIC College of Fellows Convocation. A portion of festival proceeds will be donated to a local charitable organization, at the discretion of the Sponsorship Committe.

Between June 3rd and 6th, 2015, architects, IDs, interns, students and associates as well as the general public will gather in Calgary, Alberta to network, discuss issues related to the practice of architecture and design, celebrate achievements and socialize. The venue for this event is the Hyatt Regency Calgary, located on Centre Street.
(Re)generation + Integration
In a province of big skies, and big ideas, the 2015 AAA/RAIC Festival of Architecture theme of (Re)generation + Integration embraces the value of moving beyond singular perspectives to explore opportunities to collaborate, combine, include, participate and amplify traditional norms.
(Re)generation stretches beyond sustainability; it imagines architecture and design that restores environmental health, adapts existing buildings and energizes city life.
Integration harmonizes building, interiors, landscape and street. It makes spaces that welcome all members of society, and inclusive of the aging population and people with disabilities.
Rachelle Lemieux’s Top Picks for the
RAIC/AAA 2015 Festival of Architecture
Rachelle Lemieux is an MAA Intern, RAIC intern Director, and an Intern at Stantec Architecture Winnipeg. Here’s her take on why you should attend, the events you shouldn’t miss, and how to make the most of this year’s festival in Calgary.
My first RAIC festival was in Halifax in 2013 where I was surprised to see so few interns. The festival is an excellent learning experience and networking opportunity. Since then, I have made it my mandate to increase the number of interns at the festival. Last year in Winnipeg, we had a record high of 67 interns at the festival, and I hope that we can beat that record this year in Calgary.
- Intern Meet and Greet
Highly recommended! You'll meet the other interns right at the start of the festival. By the end of the festival, you will probably have made lifelong friends from across Canada. It will be my pleasure, along with the AAA intern representative, to formally welcome you.
- Opening Reception / Closing Party
These are terrific occasions for networking, especially as interns will have a chance to sit with high-profile architects.
- Plenary Session and RAIC College of Fellows and Convocation
These gatherings always have fantastic keynote speakers. I am very excited to see Zita Cobb present at the plenary session. She is an inspiring role model for woman entrepreneurs.
- d.talks Panel / Film
An enjoyable encounter with the Calgary design community. This peripheral event will include a panel discussion followed by a film. A fun way to spend an evening in Calgary.
- Intern Scavenger Hunt and Intern After-Party
These events are high-energy, intern specific and unique to Calgary. I have spent months planning them with local amazing interns, Neal Philipsen, Kurtis Nishiyama, Holly Simon, and Lindsay Andreas. You’ll get see Calgary, the Design Hub as well as the renovated Simmons building!
Of course, there are a lot of great educational sessions too. One I want to highlight is Interns in Practice: Integration as the Key to Shared Success, on Saturday, June 6th at 8:30am (FA36). I know it is going to be outstanding and timely.
Check out the full schedule, and sign up before your top picks sell out. See you in Calgary!
